Recently, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! asking where the best place to buy Hot Wheels was. The consensus was pretty much a reluctant Wal-Mart, followed by Target. (With Toysrus being everyone's least favorite.)
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So now I'm wondering where your favorite place is that's not a run of the mill big box store. Where's your favorite "secret" spot to pick up Hot Wheels? Is it a certain hobby store? Or a mom and pop business that you wandered into one day?
For me, my favorite place is O'Reilly's. The amount of cars is almost always extremely small. Sometimes even less than 15-20 models. The selection, however, is usually surprisingly varied. With the same cars you might come across in the endcap of a Wal-Mart or K-Mart but in different colors and occasionally something unexpected. At my last trip I found a Matchbox 60th Anniversary Evo X police car and a Hot Wheels "Cool Classics" Chevy Camaro Concept in "SpectraFrost".
So what's your favorite out of the way place to pick up Hot Wheels? What sweet finds have you managed to come across?

I normally grab 1 at Kroger near the checkout for my son.

This might just be a Canada thing but Save on Foods usually has them hanging in almost every aisle. I can get groceries and get new cars at the same time!

Yeah, Fred Meyer (which is also Kroger, I believe) is a place I usually pick up a few. They usually have some kind of "sale" going too. :)

If you're in Los Angeles, stop by the Mattel headquarters. They have a store at the very bottom.

Grocery stores... Shop Rite in particular - I almost always find at least 1 car I want out of the relative few they have out.

The local grocery store, but they haven't had any new shipments since Xmas. I found a DBS, green 2002, and the fifth gen Hot wheels edition Camaro

In Texas at HEB supermarkets. I've also found them in swap meets.

I actually went to Fred Meyer today. They were having their amazing 10 for $10 sale...but I couldn't find anything good in the toys section. When I went to the registers however, I found a bunch of cool cars. I guess the toys section had been picked over but the collectors missed the ones at the checkout lines. :)

Our Kroger has a pretty much standing 10 for 10 offer on hot wheels.
and I have trouble not going up to 10 each time lol. They're all for my 1 year old though and he's pretty happy with his 50 or so car collection
